Tuesday Sushi Session

As a new kid on the block, we launched our first Sushi Session in the middle of August 2021. Tuesday Sushi Session was born out of the fact that there is no good Sushi in the Jambiani area, and who doesn’t love Sushi? As it happens our chef is a great Sushi Chef and as we all know, Zanzibar is also famous for its fresh seafood coming directly from the fisherman on a daily basis. Marriage this with carefully chosen wines and cocktails and you have the Tuesday Sushi Session at Villa Bluu.

Zanzibarian Seafood

There is an excellent variety of seafood brought in from the local fishing boats. The most common type of fish found in the waters surrounding Zanzibar include sardines and anchovies, coral reef fish such as grouper, snapper and emperor, as well as lobster, octopus, squid and large fish like tuna and marlin. Fisherman go out according to the tide and you never know what delights they will return with, but you can be assured of the variety.

The Sushi

Sushi itself is said to have originated around the 4th Century BC in China. But it is the Japanese who have popularized it making it a one of the most popular international dishes over the past decade. Whether you like your fish raw, flash-fried or wrapped up in a roll with vegetables, the variety is endless and delicious.

The Chef

Chef Farid developed his skills working in a variety of well-known restaurants and from there he has created his own style and twist on traditional sushi making. The rolls are not only delicious but the beautiful presentation is also food for the eyes. While most of the rolls are seafood, however if you prefer chicken or vegetable rolls then they too can tantalize the tastebuds.

The Drinks

While Sake was the standard drink always paired with sushi, today there are also many excellent international wines that pair well with your sushi. For light lean cuts of fish, we offer a Pinot Grigio, or an Albarino as well as some excellent blends such as Torres Esmeralda or Boschendal Chardonnay/Pinot Noir. For those who prefer a cocktail, there are many wonderful cocktails mixes to enhance your sushi experience, including our signature Hibiscus Tea cocktail.
